Castio Ingellvar
1: Where in Thedas is your Rook from? His parents are from Nevarra City. I didn't think too hard about his life pre-Mourn Watch so it's random.
2: What is your character's alignment? Chaotic neutral. Cas does things for the greater good, but it's a bit fast and loose.
3: Race and subclass? Human mage.
4: If your Rook was a companion, where would they be found? The music room, and he'd be humming all the time.
5: What emotion did they usually pick? Mostly the cheery and polite icons.
6: What companion are you platonically close with? Taash, unexpectedly. But he gets on with everyone.
7: Romantically close with? Emmrich.
8: Who are they suspicious of? He liked Lucanis, but is low-key scared of him.
9: Does your Rook get along with their chosen Faction? Yes! He adores the Watchers and is one to his core.
10: Are they proficient in playing any instruments? No, but he is a very amateur opera singer.
11: Weapon of choice? Mageknife and necrotic damage.
12: What is their orientation? Asexual biromantic.
13: What are their thoughts on killing? Is it a necessary evil or do they enjoy it? He's just trying to survive, if he can avoid it, he would like to, but times are tough.
14: What hobbies does your Rook have? Music, reading, theatre. He loves a good debate, he's probably part of the Lighthouse book club.
15: What NPCs do they like? Which one's do they dislike? He loves Vorgoth and Manfred, but who doesn't? I think he gets along with Strife well, and Antoine (Evka scared him but he respects her) but he and Tarquin despise each other.
16: Do they have a favorite creature in the Thedas? Assan counts, right? Otherwise he's a snake boy in every universe I write him into. Snakes all the time.
17: Do they enjoy life as an adventurer? I think he likes to revisit the Necropolis a lot, but yes, he loves exploring and learning.
18: What would your Rook be doing if they weren't recruited by Varric? The Thedas equivalent of a paranormal investigator, or amateur theatre.
19: How do you think they'll meet their end? Are you kidding? He's gunning for lichdom.
20: Would they side with Solas or fight him? He'd rather do neither, but if he can't talk Solas around, he'd fight.
21: What is your Rook's favorite ability? Corrupted Ground.
22: What languages is your character fluent in? Just the common tongue.
23: What do they do after an absolute crisis? Decompress alone, with his nose in a book, after checking in on everyone.
24: Does your character believe in the afterlife? In the sense of the wisps and the Fade being a sort of life beyond death, yeah. For himself? No, lichdom!
25: What specialization best represents your Rook? I obviously went down the Mourn Watch specialisation. The character has always been a necromancer, I originally played him in D&D 5e.
26: What animal best represents your Rook? A snake. His favourites are hognoses but he's a ball python.
27: What was their life like before the events of Veilguard? Quite simple, I think he was hiding in Minrathous, probably taking odd jobs ridding homes of spirits for a fair price.
28: Is your character the de facto leader of the party? Or do they consider someone else to be the leader? He didn't want to lead, but he took to it well enough. He considers them all to lead in their area of expertise, though.
29: If you could choose a different faction for your Rook, which one would they have joined and why? Hmm, that's actually a good question. Probably the Shadow Dragons? They have good morals and he was already hanging about in Minrathous!
30: What's your favorite thing about your Rook? Cas is a character I've had for a long time now. In-game I love how his Ult looks, the mage combat flows so prettily. In a meta sense, this character creator is the closest I've ever managed to making Castio 3d, so I love that.
Zinc Laidir
1: Where in the Thedas is your Rook from? There's a brief conversation with Taash where he mentioned being a Tevinter galley slave, so I think Zinc is a city elf from Seheron.
2: What is your character's alignment? The same as a labrador puppy.
3: Race and subclass? Elf warrior.
4: If your Rook was a companion, where would they be found? He'd move location every time, this man is hyper.
5: What emotion did they usually pick? Mostly the cheery/jokey one, but whenever there's a chance for the sad one, I went with that. Emotional boy.
6: What companion are you platonically close with? Taash, Harding and Davrin. He and Taash had trans solidarity, Harding is his bestie, and he and Davrin arm wrestle on the regular.
7: Romantically close with? The queen herself, Neve. But poor Bellara tried.
8: Who are they suspicious of? He's not too sure how to take Emmrich. He likes him, and he respects his magic, but worries about being told off, Emmrich is very Dad to him.
9: Does your Rook get along with their chosen Faction? Yes and no. Isabella finds him frustrating, I think she was probably waiting for a chance to get him gone. They're like siblings who get along better with space between visits.
10: Are they proficient in playing any instruments? Ohhhh yes. Zinc is a musician in his original conception, so he definitely plays the Elven guitar in his chamber.
11: Weapon of choice? Warhammer, specifically the brute hammer.
12: What is their orientation? Queer. Zinc has no labels, doesn't want them, doesn't care. He's a trans guy who likes hot people. You could call him pansexual but he wouldn't call himself that.
13: What are their thoughts on killing? Is it a necessary evil or do they enjoy it? Avoid as much as possible.
14: What hobbies does your Rook have? Music, but probably also card games, casual gambling stuff with the other Lords and the companions.
15: What NPCs do they like? Which one's do they dislike? I think he and Rana get chatty, and I bet he's flirted with Theia. He doesn't dislike anyone, but he did punch the First Warden. So yeah.
16: Do they have a favorite creature in the Thedas? He'd have a pet nug if he could, but he's also pet every damn dog and cat in Dock Town.
17: Do they enjoy life as an adventurer? Of course! For gold and glory!
18: What would your Rook be doing if they weren't recruited by Varric? Bothering Isabella more.
19: How do you think they'll meet their end? Doing something stupid.
20: Would they side with Solas or fight him? Fight.
21: What is your Rook's favorite ability? For Gold and Glory (I swear it's called that, the big leaping hammer smash).
22: What languages is your character fluent in? Elven, common.
23: What do they do after an absolute crisis? When the adrenaline leaves, he cries. Zinc cries a lot.
24: Does your character believe in the afterlife? Nah, but he's okay with that. Again, he knows the Fad exists, he knows spirits exist, but he thinks they have no memory of their life, so there's not really a knowable beyond for living beings.
25: What specialization best represents your Rook? I went with Slayer, because Lords of Fortune, but none of the others suited.
26: What animal best represents your Rook? A friendly puppy, or a speedy hare or something.
27: What was their life like before the events of Veilguard? A bit chaotic, but also simple. He listened to Isabella and did as he was told.
28: Is your character the de facto leader of the party? Or do they consider someone else to be the leader? He is, but in a more... Glue way. He's keeping everyone together and happy and sane as best he can.
29: If you could choose a different faction for your Rook, which one would they have joined and why? Maybe the Wardens. He wouldn't read the fine print about the Calling and how much being a Warden sucks, he'd just sign up to be a hero.
30: What's your favorite thing about your Rook? He's the mascot for this account, but make him a little elf. :3 Also doing all the silly dialogue options feels appropriate, which makes it fun.
Rook Questionnaire
inspired by @cassieuncaged's BG3 Character Development Questions but for Rook instead!
1: Where in the Thedas is your Rook from?
2: What is your character's alignment?
3: Race and subclass?
4: If your Rook was a companion, where would they be found?
5: What emotion did they usually pick?
6: What companion are you platonically close with?
7: Romantically close with?
8: Who are they suspicious of?
9: Does your Rook get along with their chosen Faction?
10: Are they proficient in playing any instruments?
11: Weapon of choice?
12: What is their orientation?
13: What are their thoughts on killing? Is it a necessary evil or do they enjoy it?
14: What hobbies does your Rook have?
15: What NPCs do they like? Which one's do they dislike?
16: Do they have a favorite creature in the Thedas?
17: Do they enjoy life as an adventurer?
18: What would your Rook be doing if they weren't recruited by Varric?
19: How do you think they'll meet their end?
20: Would they side with Solas or fight him?

Arc 3 Aaravos and Claudia- Love or Revenge?
I've been mulling over how arc 3 may go for Aaravos and Claudia and I'm really leaning towards an emotional arc where Aaravos does indeed see Claudia as his daughter and is forced to choose between her and getting vengeance
We've done so much set up across several character arcs culminating in S7 that I honestly think this is where we're going
Of course most people know my preference here (I'll be Aaravos sympathetic forever) and want to see him get a full blast of character development after stagnating for millennia
The layout I envision is:
Season 8: We posit the question, does Aaravos value his vengeance more than Claudia's life?
Season 9: We get the answer (I'm leaning Claudia, "I won't watch another daughter die")
Season 10: Resolution, which is that the Cosmic Order is unraveled (and therefore able to be rewoven) by either Aaravos and the protagonists together teaming up against a common enemy or Aaravos himself causing damage and fully going out with a bang and leaving the remains to be remade by the protags
Season 7 was our trial season as we learned all the different options for the protags to take down Aaravos and it ended in tragedy. Ezran points out that every single one of the trio had become the worst version of themselves, on the verge of giving up all they were (Ezran being determined to use violence, Rayla being determined to kill Callum, Callum caving into dark magic and discarding himself)
Note: Aaravos won in S7, or at least his Plan B benefited him greatly. As he's pointed out, he plans for contingencies and seems to have given Ezran the Novablade, potentially was the Dark Callum that Callum spoke to in the forest, he obviously allowed himself to be captured by Ezran, and he gathered every single archdragon to himself to begin the fight in earnest, in which he barely fought at all, knowing that his nova would kill his enemies for him
Aaravos has eliminated threats and gotten vengeance on not only the dragons but Akiyu as well, all boons to himself. Callum has a white streak which also leads me to believe Callum is falling into his hands in Arc 3, with Aaravos already referring to them as an "us"
With how dire things went for the protags and how they nearly lost themselves trying to kill or capture Aaravos, and playing right into his hands as they do it, I think that next arc has to offer other options other than a rehash
Which would happen if Aaravos came back different and/or let himself change priorities due to loving Claudia. (I'd like Claudia to have some pull over him as a result of her developing enough to tell someone what to do instead of always looking to others for guidance, but we'll see)
Aaravos referred to himself as Ezran's greatest ally, which makes me anticipate the Cosmic Council doing something like intervening in Xadia, such as specifically targeting Callum for his arcana and making an explicit enemy of humanity as things begin to change. The Cosmic Order hates change, including the positive change as we're seeing unfold
Aaravos would be his best ally in standing up to other Startouch elves
A lot of people's frustrations with S7 amount to Aaravos seeming to not be a part of the themes that have echoed across the series regarding grief, pain, revenge, forgiveness, healing, ect. He's been the one without closed wounds or another chance. Since we have 3 more seasons to go, I'm suggesting that everyone else's arcs are set up for him to have his. Aaravos being able to heal and care for others and himself again symbolizes an end to the longest-standing cycle of violence in the show, a total world state change. If he, an immortal, can move past violence and if not completely forgive, but at least see that no amount of suffering will bring Leola back, there's hope and truth to the idea that it's possible for anyone to do so
So his arc has to be last to wrap up the show
Ezran has had the most difficulty with this sort of arc, but he, Callum, Rayla, and characters across the show have all had to come to the conclusion that causing pain doesn't ease your own. Aaravos, after S7 and returning to the heavens, may see this firsthand as the stars perhaps don't even care about what he did, or that their suffering does nothing for him
There's also been recurring themes (particularly with Viren) about it never being too late to change
Terry this season also introduced the idea of becoming someone else/changing for the worst out of love for someone, and in doing so becoming unrecognizable to the person you love. IMO, this is a direct line to what's happened to Aaravos, who's been acting out of love, and Leola, who would be horrified by his actions
I suppose Aaravos could just not change, but since we already had a Karim, I think this is the most likely route and not just because it's everything I've ever wanted
TLDR: I don't see a way for Arc 3 to not further humanize/make Aaravos sympathetic and have an arc of his own in which he's at least a temporary ally, which will mirror many themes and trends we've seen across the whole show, scattered across many other characters over and over again. Even if he manages to permanently die (doubt it) he'll have peace at the very least for the show to land

“I have this scene in my head for my fic that I really love but i don’t feel like writing all of the other stuff to get to it.”
I see this comment like 5 times a day in fic writing spaces lol
a scene that you don’t want to write is a scene you don’t want to read. don’t write stuff you don’t want to read.
me, personally: wait until the scenes that get you to that first initial scene you were excited about are just as interesting as that scene too. it won’t be the first, second, or third thing you think of. if u have a scene you really want to write, write that, and keep writing only those exciting scenes that come to you. eventually you have a million interesting scenes for your fic and they become puzzle pieces for you to arrange and then eventually the strings come together and you realize you really do have an interesting way to get to that original scene, and you’re just as excited to write it, if you haven’t already written it when you were brainstorming other scenes earlier in the writing process that you didn’t even realize could carry your story like that.
#My process is 1) write the initial scene — the first one I thought of that inspired the fic#2) daydream (preferably to a custom playlist) and write ONLY THE DIALOGUE that I like from my daydreams#3) discover common threads while daydreaming and thus discover a theme#4) now that I have my theme; my favorite dialogue lines; and my inspiration scene I begin drafting#Drafting includes writing around the dialogue and filling in the gaps with action#I find that dialogue drives my plot usually but I’m trying to get better at throwing chaotic events at my characters#and forcing them to respond to circumstances beyond their control/beyond the consequences of their choices#Drafting is also the point where I start writing only the exciting stuff and stringing it all together like a lunatic#5) once you have enough scenes to string together and you’ve put the puzzle together: reread and revise#6) put it down and don’t touch it dont think about it don’t do anything to it for like at least 3 days to 1 week#7) reread with fresh eyes and revise again#8) repeat steps 6 and 7 until you have desired fic#Sometimes if I really don’t like the way a story is working though I’ll play around with scenes#like “what if I remove this scene? How does that affect things? Is this a loadbearing scene in the story or is it superfluous?”#“What if I delete chapters 5-15 and just totally rewrite everything in that space”#that one is a rough one to go through and is the reason why I have some fics that have never seen the light of day 😂#this is all coming from pre-2021 ghostlycod#back when I was in the marvel fandom and writing 100k self insert OC fanfics#14-18 year old me wrote like an Ancient Greek poet#pure genius masterpieces with masterclass articulation#and idk what happened but it’s like at 25 I’ve suddenly gone brain dead#I envy 14 year old me so much when I’m writing now#That girl was just humming along to Lorde on repeat creating multiple full length novels at the same time all written with English Premium

uh oh here we go again (yet another rook concept has walked into my brain)
#i don't have a name yet (bc it takes me forever to name characters) but#antivan crow death caller bc there is nothing scarier to me than the concept of an assassin who's a necromancer#esp with the leaked abilities i've read#nothing says crows HAVE to be dual wield rogues even tho that's most common#is very much a bringing death and stealing lifeforce necromancer bc it's the only thing she knows#turning recent kills into temp undead puppets against their bodyguards (also v familiar with poisons bc it's good to have a backup)#but god she would love to learn from emmrich i think his view/brand of necromancy would really shake her entire worldview#thinks she's here to prove herself. turns out she's here to find herself and get free of the crows' abusive system#and like going from prob an orphan to a circle to being taken from the circle at like idk somewhere between 5 and 8#when first leaning to death magic (bc the crows are influential i fully believe they can pay off templars). what a life :(#tbd //

LMAO so, recently someone tried to SCAM me, so i'll show you what happened and the telltales of it being a scam.
This one is quite obvious but i know people who are just starting their artist careers and might not have experiece.
Follow the thread:
🚩#1: They pick your most famous/Popular art as reference. They don't know what you actually sell.
🚩#2: They will pick a random popular character. They're not roleplayers or anything. They're not here for the art in any level
You ask me, what are the odds they really like Goku? Oh, well, you'll see. At this point i check their profile for anythign that might indicate it, but as you'll see you won't have to.
🚩#3: They say they saw my ToS. On it i state i only work with paypal and google forms.
🚩#4: Random issue with payment method. They might have a real problem with it, but see; they'll never ever accept any other payment method, such as Zelle, CashApp, Payoneer, Ko-fi, etc.
I already knew this drill so, let's continue.
🚩#5: I love playing dumb lmao. Anyway, this scam revolves on them either sending you "too much money" and asking it back or something like it. I won't be following through because i know it'll be annoying.
BE ADAMANT WITH YOUR METHODS. Do NOT EVER bend them for randos.
🚩#6: They're so ready with the info on how the payment works it's fucking funny.
The reason I PERSONALLY use PayPal INVOICES (no any other payment within paypal) is that they're safe for both me and my client. My rules are stated clearly.
MAKE A ToS I BEG YOU YOUNG ARTIST
🚩#7: They're not even a good scammer lmao they REFUSE to go on my PROFILE to get a link or read anything.
I use Forms because it collects the client requests and it's easier for me to read it all in one place. It ALSO makes scammers bored.
🚩#8: They're so disinterested on the art they don't care for posing, vibes, colors, nothing. Again, they're NOT here for art. That's hilarious.
🚩#8: Same as above. They don't care for posing or anything.
On my art they link me, i have a vampire almost staking himself in a state of euphoria.
IMAGINE VAMPIRE GOKU STAKING HIMSELF THAT'S SO FUCKIGN FUNNY MY BRO, THINK YOUR SCAM THROUGH MAYBE
🚩#9: They will price your own work for you. And they'll overshot what we, smaller artists, charge for it.
They'll overshot by a lot.
They want you to be impressed and showing "generosity" usually gets people who need monay into risky situations. That's just plain cruel.
🚩#9: Same as above. Over generosity and eagerness to pay.
They're not even with the sketch, this haven't been an hour, they don't have any work form me but OH GOD they're SO READY to pay you NEED TO KNOW they WANTS TO PAY YOU SO BAD
Lmao yeah it's working out ❤️
THIS ONE IS JUST HILARIOUS BRO I CAN'T EVEN.
ANYWAY let's continue
🚩#10: They don't know me. They don't follow me. They broke every rule on my ToS. They're making me go through a payment method i am unfamiliar and don't use.
They don't care for my process. They're not interested on my sketch.
BE. ADAMANT. ABOUT. YOUR. RULES. AND. PROCESS.
Now, for the beautiful closure of this:
Have a ToS. Don't bend the rules for randos.
Use Invoices. Be sure you're safe.
Use forms if you'd like. Requests through DM and Discord ARE COMMON FOR OTHER ARTISTS. I personally don't like it, i have ADHD.
Being an artist on an online space is dangerous. If you need help, poke an artist you know, see how they operate and if it fits you. Most of them would help you.
🚩#11: goku isn't even on their icon 😭
This is the account that tried to scam me.
#art is life ❤️
#Please DO NOT interact with them. They're clearly a scammer#do not feed their account#don't make them noticeable. Just report if you must interact.#Please don't @ them or message them.#scambaiting

First thoughts as follows:
1. They used the mobs who only attack when you intrude their territory and steal from them to be the invading hordes of villains, when they could’ve used the entire species named “Pillagers”
2. They whitewashed Steve so that he could be played by an actor who doesn’t even look like him in any aspect. Is that a sweater
3. Dumb jumanji plot when they could’ve used minecraft as the setting and worldbuilding and based it on characters who are from that world. (Humans from our world…who meet a native?? Why not either make it about that iconic character, maybe his origin story of his first journey through the game, OR another group of characters who’ve just freshly spawned and Steve leads them along as a veteran mentor??)
4. Several years ago an entire cast of potential characters was introduced into the game. And they didn’t use them
5. I have three novels sitting on my shelf that would’ve made amazing movies if they wanted to put minecraft in theaters. I could write a better story for the essence of minecraft and I have.
6. If you’re gonna make a world out of Minecraft, don’t put the blockiness in the living things—or at least make it subtle. A wolf whose fur has square shapes in it only when you do a closeup? When you squint at a bee, you realize it’s the shape of a rectangle?
A world where the trees are made up of block shapes and the land is shaped by straight, sharp lines? That’s an aesthetic. Or, even, something like this, where the land reflects the flat terraced environment. Just…make it subtle. Trees and fence posts and ropes that, in our world, would be round, just happen to have sharp edges forming cubes in this one.
This? Green screen hell nightmare fuel
7. Why not use Minecraft’s own iconic music in the trailer
8. These writers have clearly never taken a single look at the years and years of mcyt storytelling and fandom that displays exactly what we as a player and fanbase would’ve wanted out of this
9. If the movie doesn’t conclude with these guys fighting the dragon then what’s even the point
10. Why have the piglins enslaved the ghasts
11. Why do the protagonist actors need to be the only non animated things in this movie
12. Why didn’t that llama spit at the end
13. THE LANDSCAPE IN THE ABOVE SCREENSHOT DOES NOT EVEN RESEMBLE COMMON MINECRAFT TERRAIN GENERATION

Why Kids Aren't Falling in Love With Reading - It's Not Just Screens
A shrinking number of kids are reading widely and voraciously for fun.
The ubiquity and allure of screens surely play a large part in this—most American children have smartphones by the age of 11—as does learning loss during the pandemic. But this isn’t the whole story. A survey just before the pandemic by the National Assessment of Educational Progress showed that the percentages of 9- and 13-year-olds who said they read daily for fun had dropped by double digits since 1984. I recently spoke with educators and librarians about this trend, and they gave many explanations, but one of the most compelling—and depressing—is rooted in how our education system teaches kids to relate to books.
What I remember most about reading in childhood was falling in love with characters and stories; I adored Judy Blume’s Margaret and Beverly Cleary’s Ralph S. Mouse. In New York, where I was in public elementary school in the early ’80s, we did have state assessments that tested reading level and comprehension, but the focus was on reading as many books as possible and engaging emotionally with them as a way to develop the requisite skills. Now the focus on reading analytically seems to be squashing that organic enjoyment. Critical reading is an important skill, especially for a generation bombarded with information, much of it unreliable or deceptive. But this hyperfocus on analysis comes at a steep price: The love of books and storytelling is being lost.
This disregard for story starts as early as elementary school. Take this requirement from the third-grade English-language-arts Common Core standard, used widely across the U.S.: “Determine the meaning of words and phrases as they are used in a text, distinguishing literal from nonliteral language.” There is a fun, easy way to introduce this concept: reading Peggy Parish’s classic, Amelia Bedelia, in which the eponymous maid follows commands such as “Draw the drapes when the sun comes in” by drawing a picture of the curtains. But here’s how one educator experienced in writing Common Core–aligned curricula proposes this be taught: First, teachers introduce the concepts of nonliteral and figurative language. Then, kids read a single paragraph from Amelia Bedelia and answer written questions.
For anyone who knows children, this is the opposite of engaging: The best way to present an abstract idea to kids is by hooking them on a story. “Nonliteral language” becomes a whole lot more interesting and comprehensible, especially to an 8-year-old, when they’ve gotten to laugh at Amelia’s antics first. The process of meeting a character and following them through a series of conflicts is the fun part of reading. Jumping into a paragraph in the middle of a book is about as appealing for most kids as cleaning their room.
But as several educators explained to me, the advent of accountability laws and policies, starting with No Child Left Behind in 2001, and accompanying high-stakes assessments based on standards, be they Common Core or similar state alternatives, has put enormous pressure on instructors to teach to these tests at the expense of best practices. Jennifer LaGarde, who has more than 20 years of experience as a public-school teacher and librarian, described how one such practice—the class read-aloud—invariably resulted in kids asking her for comparable titles. But read-alouds are now imperiled by the need to make sure that kids have mastered all the standards that await them in evaluation, an even more daunting task since the start of the pandemic. “There’s a whole generation of kids who associate reading with assessment now,” LaGarde said.
By middle school, not only is there even less time for activities such as class read-alouds, but instruction also continues to center heavily on passage analysis, said LaGarde, who taught that age group. A friend recently told me that her child’s middle-school teacher had introduced To Kill a Mockingbird to the class, explaining that they would read it over a number of months—and might not have time to finish it. “How can they not get to the end of To Kill a Mockingbird?” she wondered. I’m right there with her. You can’t teach kids to love reading if you don’t even prioritize making it to a book’s end. The reward comes from the emotional payoff of the story’s climax; kids miss out on this essential feeling if they don’t reach Atticus Finch’s powerful defense of Tom Robinson in the courtroom or never get to solve the mystery of Boo Radley.
... Young people should experience the intrinsic pleasure of taking a narrative journey, making an emotional connection with a character (including ones different from themselves), and wondering what will happen next—then finding out. This is the spell that reading casts. And, like with any magician’s trick, picking a story apart and learning how it’s done before you have experienced its wonder risks destroying the magic.

Why Writers Don't Finish Writing Their Stories, and How to Fix It
Hello fellow writers and storytellers,
The journey of writing a story is an exhilarating adventure, but it's not without its share of obstacles. Many of us have embarked on a creative endeavor, only to find ourselves mired in the struggle to finish what we started. In this blog post, I'll unravel the common reasons why writers don't finish their stories and explore practical strategies to overcome these hurdles and reignite the flame of creativity.
The Perils of Unfinished Stories
As writers, we often find ourselves in the throes of unfinished tales, grappling with the intricate web of characters, plots, and themes. There are several reasons why the ink dries up and the story remains untold. Let's shine a light on the familiar adversaries that stand between us and the triumphant completion of our narratives:
1. Lack of Planning:
Some of us brazenly dive into our stories without a clear roadmap, resulting in uncertainty about the direction of the plot and the fate of our characters. The lack of a solid plan can lead us astray, leaving our stories wandering in the wilderness of aimlessness.
2. Self-Doubt and Perfectionism:
Ah, the relentless whispers of self-doubt and the siren call of perfectionism! These twin adversaries can cast a shadow over our creative vision, compelling us to endlessly revise and perfect the early chapters, trapping us in a whirlpool of perpetual edits.
3. Time Management:
Balancing the demands of daily life with the ardor of writing can be akin to walking a tightrope. The struggle to find consistent time for our craft often leaves our stories languishing in prolonged periods of inactivity, longing for the touch of our pen.
4. Writer's Block:
The mighty barrier that even the most intrepid writers encounter. Writer's block can be an insurmountable mountain, leaving us stranded in the valleys of creative drought, unable to breathe life into new ideas and narratives.
5. Lack of Motivation:
The flame that once burned brightly can flicker and wane over time, leaving us adrift in the murky waters of disillusionment. The initial excitement for our stories diminishes, making it arduous to stay committed to the crafting process.
6. Fear of Failure or Success:
The twin specters that haunt many writers' dreams. The apprehension of rejection and the unsettling prospect of life-altering success can tether us to the shores of hesitation, preventing us from reaching the shores of completion.
7. Criticism and Feedback Anxiety:
The looming dread of judgment casts a long shadow over our creative endeavors. The mere thought of receiving criticism or feedback, whether from peers or potential readers, can cast a cloud over our storytelling pursuits.
8. Plotting Challenges:
Crafting a cohesive and engaging plot is akin to navigating a labyrinth without a map. Faced with hurdles in connecting story elements, we may find ourselves lost in a maze of plot holes and unresolved threads.
9. Character Development Struggles:
Breathing life into multi-dimensional, relatable characters is a complex art. The intricate process of character development can become a quagmire, ensnaring us in the challenge of creating personas that drive the story forward. (Part one of Character Development Series)
10. Life Events and Distractions:
Unexpected events in our personal lives can cast ripples on our writing routines, interrupting the flow of our creativity and causing a loss of momentum.
Rallying Against the Odds: Strategies for Success
Now that we've confronted the adversaries that threaten to stall our storytelling odysseys, let's arm ourselves with strategies to conquer these barriers and reignite the flames of our creativity.
Embrace the Power of Planning:
A clear roadmap illuminates the path ahead. Arm yourself with outlines, character sketches, and plot maps to pave the way for your story's journey.
Vanquish Self-Doubt with Action:
Silence the voices of doubt with the power of progress. Embrace the imperfect beauty of your early drafts, knowing that every word brings you closer to the finish line.
Mastering the Art of Time:
Carve out sacred writing time in your schedule. Whether it’s ten minutes or two hours, every moment dedicated to your craft is a step forward.
Conquering Writer's Block:
Embrace the freedom of imperfection. Write, even if the words feel like scattered puzzle pieces. The act of writing can unravel the most stubborn knots of writer's block.
Reigniting the Flame of Motivation:
Seek inspiration in the wonders of the world. Reconnect with the heart of your story, rediscovering the passion that set your creative spirit ablaze.
Reshaping Fear into Fuel:
Embrace the uncertainty as an integral part of the creative journey. Embrace the lessons within rejection and prepare for the winds of change that success may bring.
Navigating the Realm of Criticism:
Embrace feedback as a catalyst for growth. Constructive criticism is a powerful ally, shaping your story into a work of art that resonates with readers.
Weaving the Threads of Plot:
Connect the dots with fresh eyes. Step back and survey the tapestry of your plot, seeking innovative solutions to bridge the gaps and untangle the knots.
Breathing Life into Characters:
Engage with your characters as if they were old friends. Dive into their depths, unraveling their quirks, fears, and dreams, and watch as they breathe life into your story.
Navigating Life's Tempests:
Embrace the ebb and flow of life. Every pause in your writing journey is a chance to gather new experiences and perspectives, enriching your storytelling tapestry.
The Ever-Resting Pen: Harnessing the Power Within
Fellow writers, the journey of completing a story is filled with peaks and valleys, each offering us the opportunity to sharpen our resolve and unleash our creative potential. As we stand at the crossroads, staring at the canvas of unfinished tales, let's rally against the odds, armed with the power of purpose, passion, and perseverance.
Let the ink flow once more, breathing life into tales left untold, and watch as your stories triumphantly reach their long-awaited conclusion. You possess the power to conquer the adversaries that stand in your way, and within you lies the essence of untold narratives waiting to unfurl onto the page.
Here's to the journey that lies ahead, the stories waiting to be written, and the unyielding spirit of creativity that thrives within each of us.
Warm regards and unwavering encouragement, Ren T.

Platonic Yandere!Batfamily
Summary: The Batfamily takes you to their private island for summer vacation.
It was just you. Just you and the gently lapping of the waves against the shore. Finally, some alone time. You had to make the most of it, since you were convinced that it wouldn’t last long.
It was about 8 o’clock in the morning. Bruce, Damian and Stephanie had left the island for whatever reason. Dick was either at home or at main beach, looking for you. You had come here about half an hour ago, surely they would’ve noticed your absence and the fact that you had left your phone at home. They were going to chip you eventually, you had come to accept that. However, you certainly enjoyed the time you had away from them whenever they couldn’t find you.
Jason was probably inside the villa. He wasn’t particularly fond of the heat outside. Either that or he’d gone swimming to cool off. Cassandra could’ve been looking for you. Maybe she had already found you.
Instinctively, you looked around. No one was in sight. Then again, she probably wouldn’t let herself be seen anyway.
The shore surrounding the island was wider at the main beach. Here, it was only a few feet wide. Behind you laid a sparse palm forest. Cassandra could certainly hide there. Whatever. You wouldn’t find her anyway. Besides, she would have probably come to talk to you. Probably.
Where would Duke and Tim be? At the villa, right? Where else would they be? Hopefully not looking for you.
Now that you had considered it, you were probably being observed by someone. And if you weren’t, then soon, you would be.
Whatever, just take your mind off it. Think of something else, like…the beautiful beach you’re at. Yes, it is much nicer to think about the gentle breeze. How wonderful. Just you, the beach and the ocean.
You hadn’t ever been at a private beach, so this was a unique experience. All of this belonged to you. Well it actually belonged to your new family, but still, it almost belonged to you.
Your soul nearly left your body at the sound of rustling coming from behind you.
“Hi”, Tim waved nervously after you had spotted him sneaking up on you.
You didn’t feel like answering, so you just turned back to the ocean. Wanting to engage with you somehow, Tim sat down on the sand next to you.
“So…what are you doing here?”, he kept looking at you, but you tried very hard to ignore his gaze.
“Just sitting.”
“Well, I can tell that, but why here? Why not on the main beach? Dick and Jason are scrambling to find you there.”
You had thought that was the case.
“I wanted to be alone.”, you emphasized every word.
He chuckles nervously. That was it. He didn’t say anything. That told you everything you needed to know: He was only here to annoy you.
“How did you even find me?”, you turned to him, your voice tinged with frustration.
“Find you? Oh, I wasn’t looking for you, I just wanted to go somewhere alone. You know, somewhere peaceful”, he turned to the ocean, as though in deep thought,”I get it, you know. You also want to be alone sometimes.”
If he “gets it”, then why is he always right behind you?
“I think you and I have a lot more in common than you think”, he said, crossing his arms on his propped up knees and turning to you.
The audacity to say something like that made you shudder.
“I think you’re full of shit”, you wouldn’t let him think that he’s getting closer to you. You could never like someone like him.
He tried to hide his frown, but you saw right through him,”That’s pretty mean, you know. I’m just trying to connect with you.”
He didn’t say it directly, but you knew his words were a warning. Bruce had talked to you about this. You were allowed to have your opinions about them, but being overly rude was a violation of the rules—rules, which he made up. In other words, if Tim thought you were being mean, then you were being mean. Against this, there would be no arguing.
Well, you know what they say: If you don’t have anything nice to say, don’t say anything at all.
“Ahem, I’m trying to connect with you…”, Tim persisted. You merely pursed your lips and nodded.
Noticing the awkward silence, he spoke again, ”So, will you go swimming?”
You shook your head.
He nodded, “Yes, it isn’t that hot yet, so there’s no need to cool off, I suppose.”
“Well”, he turned to you with a smile, his determination unwavering, “What would you like for breakfast? Alfred already started preparing something. Let’s head back and let him know what you want before he finishes.” But wouldn’t Alfred already know your preference? Perhaps this was Tim’s idea of “bonding”…
Still, his offer seemed tempting, since you hadn’t eaten yet. However, you weren’t jumping at the idea of going back only to place your order with Alfred and then get dragged off to go swimming by either Jason or Dick. Or worse, Tim.
Only now that you felt the hopelessness more intensely, did you begin to question things. Why did Tim always find you first. And how? They didn’t secretly chip you, did they?
…Did they?
Asking them wouldn’t result in an honest answer, so you didn’t really see a point in it. But how else would you figure it out?
You supposed the best person to ask was Bruce—AKA. Dad. He was likely the only person who would answer truthfully…as long as you behaved properly, that is.
“Is dad home yet?”, you turned to Tim, ignoring his previous rambling.
“Oh uh, I’m not sure. Shall we go check together?”, Tim scrambled to use every opportunity he was given, despite being caught off guard.
Perhaps it won’t get any better than this: Mediocre at best.
“Fine, let’s go.”
From the corner of your eye, after Tim grabbed your hand, you saw his smile widen remarkably.
The walk was long and awkward. Your older brother was desperately trying to talk about something, anything, that would catch your interest. Meanwhile, you were silent for the most part.
You had to admit, the villa was quite nice (if only it came without the addition of desperate, touch starved reprobates). Despite having your own room, you were forced to share a room—and often even a bed—with someone, unless you gained Bruce’s special favour for the day.
Luckily, Damian, the person you had to share the room with last night, had left very early in the morning. You weren’t sure how long ago, though, since the letter he’d written to inform you of his absence was…detailed, to say the least. Surely it would’ve taken him more than an hour to even come up with it, let alone write it. What a waster of paper. He didn’t have to say anything at all…
Entering the cool living room made you relax enough to finally engage with Tim, “Um…are Jay and Dick home, or…?”
In respone, he laughed, “Oh, no. I didn’t tell them that you’re with me. They’re probably still looking for you at the main beach. Dick went on about how we shouldn’t let you go anywhere alone in case you drowned or something like that.”
“Wait, what? But I know how to swim! Please tell Bruce that Dick’s rule is unnecessary…I already have enough restrictions, don’t I?” You panicked.
“Well…” He grinned, “That depends on what you’ll do for me in exchange.”
Even sighing was tiring for you at this point, “Fine, I’ll sleep in your room tonight.”
“Until the end of the week, or no deal.”
Holding back a groan, you responded, “Fine, whatever, just…work your magic, okay?” He nodded eagerly.
“Greeting, Masters. Breakfast is almost prepared”, Alfred appeared from the kitchen.
“Hi. Alfred, did you make-”
“Your favourite? Of course I did”, Alfred interrupted.
“…Right.” You should’ve known, to be fair, “Well, when will it be done?”
“When Master Bruce and Master Damian return”
“What about Steph? Isn’t she returning?” If she didn’t return at all, your life would improve considerably.
“Oh, Steph? She wanted to stay in the city for a bit, probably to buy you gifts or something”, Tim responds in Alfred’s stead.
“Gifts…? You don’t think she’ll, you know, make me play dress-up again, right?”, the thought sent a shiver down your spine. In this heat? There was no way you’d wear layers upon layers of clothes just because she was bored. You immediately left the living room, leaving Tim and Alfred behind.
While waiting for everyone to return to eat breakfast, you went and hid somewhere in the villa to avoid social interractions. And hopefully the heat. It was very hot.

Viktor's (subverted) Aristotelian Tragedy
A common sentiment I’m seeing throughout post-finale Viktor discourse is an understandable concern or distaste for the element of choice lost throughout his story. I know a lot of us – myself included – expected more time spent on his transformation, along with emphasis on the anger/rage/betrayal fueling it. But seeing him allow Singed to “begin the process” in episode 8 reminded me of Arcane’s origins – tragedy. Bear with me for another long analysis :)
Aristotle wrote the following on the tragedy: “A tragedy is the imitation of an action that is serious and also, as having magnitude, complete in itself…with incidents arousing pity and fear, wherewith to accomplish a catharsis of these emotions.” He also emphasized that the true tragic hero couldn’t be perfect, and his downfall into such catharsis-inducing circumstances was reliant on a fatal flaw, oftentimes pride.
Viktor fits this mold, as do many Arcane characters, and it stands to reason that this was intentional since the writing team has reiterated that the show is a tragedy, at its core.
Regarding Viktor’s fatal flaw, I’d argue it’s pride, but it manifests very uniquely. He never makes any grand declarations about his success and doesn’t draw attention to himself in any clear way throughout season one (“Progress Day” comes to mind). Instead, his pride manifests as staunch independence and self-reliance that lead to his downfall; his unwillingness to break his stoic mold arguably led to his use of the Hexcore…so it goes.
Fascinating caveat: Viktor’s pride is a defense mechanism, a necessary tool he built in order to survive and succeed in a hostile environment to people of his station. His self-reliance is increasingly desperate as his illness worsens. He’s cornered by fate but banks on the sanctity of choice at every turn – in season one, Viktor is bound by the conviction that we all have a choice. It’s why he’s so distressed when Jayce makes the wrong one regarding weaponizing Hextech.
“There is always a choice.”
Viktor’s choice to fuse with the Hexcore is the classic Aristotelian fatal flaw moment, the singular incident that opens the flood gates for eventual catharsis. We watch Viktor make an irreparable choice, one that we know to be bad, and endure the repercussions. He then makes the choice to abandon the Hexcore, and end his life, but audiences can’t shake the feeling that those consequences aren’t leaving anytime soon.
So why is Viktor so anti-choice in his final season 2, act 3 form?
Choice is Viktor’s weapon. Pride is what leads him to abusing it. Despite how uncomfortable and depressing it is to watch, Viktor’s slow descent into the Herald is a perfect twist of fate. The Arcane is even so insidious that it meshes with his original intent, to help those suffering in the undercity, while convincing him that their subservience is healing. He becomes responsible for their choices. He knows what’s best because he’s relieving the Gloriously Evolved of their suffering, right? The utopia is for the greater good, yes?
Admittedly, it was really hard watching act 3 Viktor descend fully into his choiceless ethos. But we can still relate it to his tragic flaw – his pride has mushroomed into coldhearted omniscience; not only does he know what’s best for everyone, evolution, but he also has the sense to make the choice for them to supersede their “baser instincts.” The grief we feel upon seeing this perverted, violent version of himself, as far removed from Viktor as possible, is the culmination of Aristotle’s treatise on tragedy. The catharsis is the rock-bottom Machine Herald.
"Choice is false."
But then Arcane decided to basically make Jayvik canon (get out of here, Christian Linke) and destroyed the early drafts of this post. I’m going to rapid-fire this next bit:
Jayce forces Viktor back to life. Viktor has no agency in his season 2 inciting incident. Again, it’s distressing when we mourn his agency, but it remains in accordance with Aristotelian tragedy.
Viktor clings to humanity as long as he possibly can. When Jayce calls out Viktor’s trajectory, alleging that his old partner had died in the Council chamber, whatever is left of Viktor gives way to the Arcane because his last tether has been snapped.
Jayce knows the game – Old Man Jenkins Mage Viktor told him so. Jayce becomes the linchpin in subverting Viktor’s tragedy. He knows what must happen. He understands now.
Machine Herald Viktor is given the chance to undo his fatal flaw, to reverse the catharsis, when he sees Old Man Jenkins Mage Viktor. With Jayce’s help, he takes it.
Given that it’s a version of Viktor who ultimately frees him from himself by empowering Jayce, we can gather that Viktor has liberated himself from his tragedy.
Aristotle’s catharsis is rapidly transformed from something based in release to something healing – Viktor’s tether to humanity returns. He grasps it. The walls of his pride and self-reliance collapse. He accepts Jayce’s help, finally being seen as the full individual he is. Catharsis ensues, for sure, but I don’t think it’s based in the typical tragedy genre.
All this to say, I think Viktor’s arc was, in fact, carefully constructed. He represents the Aristotelian descent into a fatal flaw and that’s very distressing to see unfold, especially since he embodied the tragic hero archetype so well from day one. However, Jayce undoes this narrative and we’re given an incredibly subversive ending that I, personally, never saw coming.
I’m sure that Mage Viktor has a much larger bearing on this analysis than I’m accounting for. But for now, suffice to say that he is Viktor’s way out of the tragedy. TALK ABOUT CHOICE!
This doesn’t erase anyone’s discomfort for Viktor having less and less agency, but I’d like to emphasize the logic and literary precedent behind the story decisions.
PS: here's a quick source I looked at about Aristotelian tragedies. I hope to re-up on Greek tragedies so I can get more specific about the parallels Arcane draws from them.
#wow! big one! thanks for reading if you stuck thru to the end#if you couldn't tell...i am a fan of viktor's entire story#it still doesn't feel fully real to me#and OFC they could have - and should have - spent way more time showing rather than telling#but that's a problem unfortunately endemic to the entire season so i see no point in dwelling too much#i just. i love him#and i will never stop talking about him for as long as i live ok ok#viktor arcane#arcane viktor#jayce talis#jayvik#arcane meta#arcane#arcane season 2#arcane s2#arcane spoilers#also i fucking love old man jenkins mage viktor and nobody will silence me on that front#viktor propaganda

The context of your meeting
This reading can apply to a future BF/GF, a future spouse, any platonic or romantic connection that is significant to your journey. The theme for this reading will be the series Charmed.
Group 1
Back of the deck - overall energy | 6 of cups
The person we are talking about is someone you shared past lives with. They are a soulmate of yours. They could be a person from your past that you reunite with or a new person, the spread will maybe help us find out. This is someone that you will instantly feel connected to and drawn towards. You may share a common passion or come from a similar background. Your meeting with this person may be related to children. Either one or both of you work with children or is a parent.
Spread | 4 of cups, ace of pentacles, Fool rx, 2 of cups, ace of swords, 8 of cups
I would first like to point out that many of these cards represent new beginnings. So with that in mind, there is a high possibility that this person is someone new that will be entering your life. The cards show a period of transition and uncertainty, highlighted by a feeling of being discontent with what the universe is providing you. You may meet this person at a point in your life where you feel like things aren't progressing and not much is happening. You may be feeling bored, at a loss at what to do. Maybe you are in a new environment and don't feel at ease with your surroundings. You may have a hard time adjusting and fully embracing the changes happening around you. In comes this person. They are like a revelation. The right person at the exact right timing. The chemistry is obvious right away. This person helps you, understands you, communicates with you effectively. You feel cared for, seen and appreciated for who you are. They bring you a lot of clarity and knowledge. Maybe this person is more familiar with your new surroundings and they play a major role in you adapting to your new life. This person slowly but surely helps you moving on from your past. However, as things progress, you may be getting a bit wary and scared around them. You could be resisting the attraction you feel for them once you get to know them. I feel like this person will first be your friend and confidant before they become your lover, if that is what's meant for you. One thing is sure, their presence is significant to your journey. The transition we're talking about may concern a relationship or significant partnership that came to an end. The moment you "lose" that person or contract that was so important to you, shortly after comes in a new person that helps you heal from this situation. Which is very similar to Piper's dynamic with Leo, when you think of it. Piper has lost her grandmother and must now live alone in the manor with her sisters. She has newly found powers that she didn't know of and has now to protect the world from demons. Those are a lot of changes that she quickly has to adapt to and it turns out that Leo is the "guardian angel" sent by the Elders to watch upon her and her sisters until they can fulfill their destiny as witches. But the trick is that they fall in love when Leo isn't allowed to because of his angelic nature and duties... So thinking about that, your meeting with this person may have a bit of a "forbidden love" vibe to it.

Your meeting with this person could involve travelling. What particularly stands out in this meeting is the intense passion and magnetic attraction that you feel. This may start out as a casual, flirty connection and quickly escalate into something more. This person could be younger than you or less experienced when it comes to relationship. You may be meeting this person through common acquaintances or a common passion. You could already know this person and you may meet them again soon. If not, the meeting may be happening sooner than you expect.
Spread | page of cups, 3 of swords, Hanged Man, 4 of wands, 5 of wands, ace of wands
The first impressions are further confirmed by this spread. I mean 3 out of the 6 cards are fire cards. When you meet this person, you are in a difficult situation. For some of you, it could be that you are being attacked/provoked by another person when you are hanging out with friends. For others, it can be that you recently broke up with your boyfriend/girlfriend. I get the feeling of someone being affected to the point of needing to isolate and put their activities on hold. This person that you meet may be someone that has a higher status than yours, maybe a medic, in case you were hurt, or a police officer. At least they are able to provide you with a different point of view from the situation and detach yourself from whatever happened. They may be a therapist. Someone that you feel comfortable with, a person that supports you right away in whatever issue you are struggling with at the moment. This person will quickly take matters into their hands and ensure that you are safe, that justice is made. They could try to do justice themselves. I get a very rash, bold, impulsive energy from this person because of all that fire. The attraction is instant. This person will very quickly express their interest and they may very well propose to you very quickly. They will completely sweep you off your feet. I feel like you won't oppose much resistance to this person. You may be a bit wary at first but your guards will fall down very early on. You will completely trust this person, possibly because of the recent events that have affected you. This relationship could be a karmic connection because of it's intensity and passionate nature. The person may be very possessive of you right off the bat and try to keep you to themselves. They may try to fight anyone that comes in and tries to interfere in your connection. Very early on, they will do everything to please you. You may recognize this person because of how they stand out from a crowd and are completely different from you, from everything or anyone you've ever known. Your friends may introduce you to this person in hopes that they help you forget about whatever issue you faced in the past. Like this could be what people would call a rebound relationship. Again, the energies here are very similar to the dynamic of the characters Phoebe and Cole.
Group 3
Overall energy | The Sun
You may meet this person at a time in your life when you're at your best. Your finances are going well, you have come to a point in your life where you can be proud of all you've accomplished and you may be feeling good about yourself overall. The Sun can be indicating Summer, specifically Leo season. So that would be from mid July to mid August. It could also mean that you meet in an exotic setting or a very popular place. Think of very touristic sites in foreign countries like the pyramids in Egypt, the Eiffel tower and Louvres in Paris, the Colosseum in Rome and so on. I get a hectic vibe from this card so maybe at that time of your life things are very busy, a lot of things are happening around you and in your personal life. It can be both very exciting but also daunting. And even though you're happy about the changes and optimistic about the future, a part of you may still be holding onto the past subconsciously.
Main spread | knight of wands, 6 of pentacles, White Numen, 4 of cups, 10 of wands, High Priestess
With the main spread, that feeling of being busy was reinforced. Your meeting may involve a work setting for one of you, or maybe both. With that 6 of pentacles I thought of humanitarian activities. The combination of the first three cards followed by the 4 of cups made me think that maybe at that time you're keeping yourself busy with work to forget about something painful. It could be a recent break up or just the feeling of being lonely and not having anyone to share your most valuable moments with. A part of you maybe feels bored. Even though you love your life, you love your job, you may still be feeling restless, like you haven't trully fulfilled your mission or there's something more waiting for you and you don't really know which way to go. You also may be feeling quite tired and over burdened with responsibilities and you're just like "I wish there was someone I could share my worries with". And in comes this person. They may be in the same field as you or maybe you have a common hobby, passion that brings you together. I feel like you may be very wary of this person at first and will keep things surface level. You may consider that something's off or this person is too good to be true. This may be related to past love experience that didn't work out. Also I got the message that once you let this person in, you may want to keep things lowkey. You and this person may decide to keep this relationship hidden. Maybe because of your work or your status. Like maybe part of your work place's ethic is to avoid dating with other coworkers for example. Or maybe your career and work image may be impacted if people knew you were dating this person, and vice versa. It could also be because of your family or just that you don't want people to put their nose in your business. Also, you may have a hunch right away that this person is the one for you but for some reason you'll be fighting it and trying to resist falling in love with them. This person is someone very passionate I feel and dedicated to whatever they're doing and so when they figure out their own feelings for you, they may be the one pursuing you and trying to charm you. I feel like they'll work super hard to prove themselves to you and won't give up until you finally see them for who they are. Even if the relationship may be tricky at first and have you two doubting the connection, I feel like it will make both of you stronger individually. Especially, both of your careers may be impacted greatly once you meet. You will learn a lot from each other and may hone certain skills, maybe psychic ones for some of you.
